Massachusetts' Solar Energy Future: The Advantages of Going Solar

While America continues to see a rise in renewable energy use, some states are seeing legislature that takes renewable energy and solar energy production to a new level; specifically Massachusetts.

An a recent article published by www.energynews.us shows Massachusetts’ looks to follow California by mandating that most new constructions, residential and commercial, require solar panels for solar energy production with the exception of shaded or nonviable properties.

One of the bills (SB 1957) calls for rooftop solar panels on on residential and construction. The second bill (SB 1995) would require that solar panels be put on any new and also any renovated state-owned buildings. Both bills are working their way through Legislature.

Both bills have been reported on favorably by Legislature’s Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy.

“A solar requirement could also provide an economic boost.” said Mark Sylvia, president of the Solar Energy Business Association of New England.
