LED Light Bulbs

Can you imagine a world without light bulbs? Where we still used candles, and sunlight to light our homes and our offices. A world where “Sunday night football” didn’t exist! That would be crazy right?

We’re so dependent on light bulbs that today, during a power outage, we rely on our phones, and lanterns – with light bulbs – to provide light. People rarely use candles.

Lights make a LOT of things possible. In fact, I’m tempted to say that lights make the impossible possible! That’s kind of a bold statement, but kind of true!

The first light bulbs were invented in 1879 by Thomas Edison and by 1880 light bulbs were sold commercially and began providing light to homes across America.

As ingenious as those original bulbs were, can you believe that it took nearly 100 years before a totally new kind of light was invented?!

Since it’s invention in 1962 by Nick Holonyak, the LED light bulb, technically known as a Light-Emitting Diode, showed us that we didn’t have to spend SO MUCH MONEY to light our properties.

The 3 Main Differences Between LED Lights and Conventional Lights

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of an LED light bulb versus a normal light bulb? I assume it’s “savings”. And that is of course one of the major differences.

  • LED light bulbs use about 75% less power than normal light bulbs do. That’s because a normal light bulb only uses about 10% of the power it consumes to make actual light, the rest of the energy is used to push the electricity through and make heat. If you’ve ever touched an LED light bulb you’ll notice it wasn’t super-hot like normal light bulbs are.
  • LED lights bulbs also last much longer than normal bulbs. A new LED light bulb can last between 50,000-100,000 hours, whereas the average life span of an incandescent bulb is about 1,200 hours. Quite the difference right? LED light bulbs cost more money, however they pay themselves off in time.
  • LED light bulbs also have a wide range of colors, from white “colder” light to a warmer “amber” type light. This makes LED light bulbs more versatile.  Some LED light bulbs can produce a full spectrum of colors.

So, What is an LED Retrofit?

When you want to switch from normal light bulbs to LED light bulbs it’s as easy as going to the department store, buying a bunch of LED lights, and installing them right?

Well, not totally.

You can plug an LED light bulb into a normal light fixture but it’s not ideal. It will work but you will not be realizing its full savings potential and your lights might also flicker.

An LED Retrofit is a strategic approach to how you light your home, building, office, etc. taking full advantage of LED lights, and modern systems.

Because LED light bulbs can produce a higher volume of light than normal light bulbs, not only an LED lighting retrofit reduce the amount of power you need to light a property, but it also reduces the number of light bulbs needed thereby maximizing cost reductions!

Add to that smart-LED technology, like sensors that turn lights off when a room is not in use, dimming technology that dims lights if sunlight is coming into a room and many more neat tricks that all add up to fewer costs!

Oh, and while we’re at it, we can make your lighting aesthetically pleasing by incorporating the latest designs and turning your lights into awesome-looking fixtures!

That’s an LED lighting retrofit.

With a return of investment as short as two years, LED lighting retrofits can also be done as a service. Meaning, rather than making it a capital expenditure, you can install the system and pay a monthly fee that will be less than you’re currently paying for the electricity your normal lights use.

Just how much money can you sand of bulbs you currently use and what kind of system you choose.

However, I can say that last year we helped a school cut their costs by an estimated $48,000 and helped them get a $50,000 rebate for the project because they were reducing their carbon footprint. And the entire project was funded with no up front costs.
